Segment: The Flying Tiger Squadron Broadcast Segment
About the Project:
- Client: Nexstar Media/KTLA
- Project: 2024 Countdown to the Rose Parade
- Role: Segment Producer
For the first-ever civilian flyover of the Rose Parade, we took parade co-host, Mark Steines, to join in a test flight of these historic WWII era fighter planes as they practice their aerial run for the New Year’s Day parade..
My Contribution:
This piece was meant to capture the awe of flight in these older aircraft. We bolted GoPros to everything we could, and got additional footage from other pilots to really get the feeling of flying over Los Angeles in these spectacular aircraft. Being able to cut from the ground, to the interior of the planes, to various GoPros captured the sense of flight. Our amazing audio recordist, Eric Pearce, also tapped in to the airplane comms so we could capture the inflight chatter. Of course, Mark Steines was a joy to work with and we capture his genuine excitement about taking to the air for this segment.
