Segment: Why Our Brains Love Movies
About the Project:
- Client: Nexstar Media/KTLA
- Project: 2022 Countdown to the Rose Parade
- Role: Segment Producer/Editor/Writer
Ever wonder why the human brain loves going to movie theaters? Dr. Jonas Kaplan explains the neuro-science that drives our desire to watch movies on the big screen — and Oscar-winner Denzel Washington shares his take on why we love movies in this segment from KTLA’s Rose Parade Pre-Show.
My Contribution:
In conjunction with AMC Theaters’ presentation of a float in the Rose Parade, we decided to explore why movies are important — but rather than revisit the tired clichés of big images and big sound, I decided to dig deeper and consulted with Dr. Jonas Kaplan to understand how our brains are hard-wired so that we actually need the experience to going to the movie theater. Buttressed with additional interviews to provide a human side to this scientific probe — and with a clip from Denzel Washington — this segment successfully makes the case that everyone needs movies!
