About the Project:
- Client: Eaten Alive Productions/Steve Troop
- Collaborator: Steve Troop
- Project: Melonpool: The Motion Picture, Kickstarter Campaign
- Role: Director/Cinematographer
This is a fund-raising video for a planned feature film which took the beloved character of Mayberry Melonpool — one of the first web comic stars — from digital illustrations to the movie screen. Based on the ridiculously amusing concept of loosely re-making Star Trek: The Motion Picture with Steve Troop’s puppets, this piece had tons of the good-natured fun that makes any muppet-style puppetry a pleasure to watch.
My Contribution
I had a long collaboration with Steve on this project, from working through the script, to a detailed set of storyboards for the proposed film project. I worked with Steve on the script for the fundraising video, and contributed a few good ideas (including the ‘naked’ puppets bit) and shot the entire video using a consumer camcorder. I must say, working with puppets and puppeteers was both challenging and hella entertaining. I edited the video and supervised the ADR sessions to add the final pizzazz to the vocal performances.
Kickerstarter Campaign:
- Successful campaign which reached its stretch goal.
