About Eaten Alive Productions

Eaten Alive Productions is helmed by Jon Stout, a creative producer and filmmaker who has traversed the fields of filmmaking, broadcast, web development, user experience, podcasting, education and print.

Drawing on these diverse experiences, I bring a Mary Poppins-style bag of tricks to any project, burrow in to the core of what needs to be expressed — and tee that up for the audience's delight.

Description

Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood AR Promotional Site

As a Narrative Producer working with BLKBX, I pitched concepts, reviewed the feature script and researched relevant topics. I collaborated with video editors and Getty Images to visualize and animate this nostalgic and quirky look at Quentin Tarantino's Hollywood of the sixties.

Treasure Planet 3-D Online Game based on the Disney film

As a creative producer for Media Revolution, I guided creative and programming teams in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Los Angeles, navigated cultural differences, and realized this fully 3-D online SmartFlash game for Disney's Treasure Planet so that it would appeal to a domestic, U.S. audience.

Eaten Alive Productions: The Origin Story

It all started with a recurring dream I had while in college. At that time, by day I worked in an office of friendly, though bureaucratic, architects. At night, I was mesmerized by the films of Terry Gilliam and David Lynch. In my dream, an office worker was attacked by a blob and slowly consumed while they  were still alive — doing paperwork. I turned that idea into my first short film. Looking back on it today, it is even more surreal and absurd than I recognized at the time. In this film, a man is slowly eaten alive by a mysterious blob while his bureaucratic co-workers complain that he is just mucking things up. Things go from bad to worse, until his desiccated corpse is tossed into the trash.

As a child, I was influenced by books like The Amityville Horror and The Shining, as well as The Lord of the Rings.  Later, I moved on to Kafka, Beckett and Ishiguro — and even, O'Brian and Akunin. I've alway been drawn to basking in the absurdity and surreality of life — especially when that drama is expressed in the decidedly non-surreal, grounded moments of connection between people.

My instinct is to zero in on the essence of a project, be it a film, tv show, web site or experience — and find the meaning at its core. Then, I  push out along all the edges and find out exactly how far you can push these ideas and feelings while still hitting home with the audience.

I am thrilled to be working and collaborating in the world of creativity, and nothing gives me greater joy than imagining, creating and completing creative works.

I bring conceptualizing, directing, writing and producing skills to the table, keeping one foot in the gooey puddle of creative inspiration and the other in the overly-organized and practical world of structure and schedule.

Eaten Alive Productions is a reflection of its name. We are all slowly eaten alive by our experiences, All that matters is how we deal it: panic, humor, joy or quiet fortitude – staring the boa constrictor in the eyes as it slowly pulls you into its gullet.
